Features Arriva London's HA, HV and LT classes of hybrid double deck bus. Newest is the HA - a London variant of Alexander Dennis' Enviro 400H MMC. The very pleasant driver I spoke to (who very kindly let me have a look around one) had nothing but praise for them. I have the feeling that, in a few years, these are going to be a very common sight in London.
London's red buses are among the most iconic symbols of the capital. The reason behind their colour dates to the early 1900s, when the transport system was operated by different rival companies. London General Omnibus Company (or L.G.O.C.) owned most of the buses and in 1907 painted its entire fleet red to stand out from competitors. Since 1933, the colour was adopted by London Transport and it has remained ever since. It is the same colour which is also used on the London Underground roundel, the Royal Mail, Kit and Kat and McDonald's. Welcome to the first of three London United video reviews. Shot in September and October 2019 (with some older footage thrown in where appropriate), these films follow the company's daytime activities on a route-by-route basis. This particular film features routes 9, 18, 27, 33, 65, 70, 71, 72, 85, 94, 105, 110 and 111. Video was shot in the following locations: Castelnau, Cenral London, Chiswick, Cranford, Ealing, East Acton, Fulwell, Greenford, Hammersmith, Hampton Court, Harlesden, Hounslow, Kensington, Kew, Kingston upon Thames, Putney, Richmond, Shepherd's Bush, Southall, Twickenham and Wembley. May I take this opportunity thank the staff of London United, whom I always found to be helpful and polite (unlike some other companies I've had dealings with in the past), and I'd like to give a special thank you to those drivers who gave me (and in turn, my viewers) a smile and a cheery wave - it costs nothing, after all, and is always appreciated. Hope you enjoy the video!

One of the most iconic forms of public transport in the world, the AEC Routemaster was never built to be an icon, but regardless of its intentions, the big red double-decker has proven that even something as utilitarian and everyday as a bus can become far more. *Apologies for the abrupt reuploading of this video, but I had to correct a few erroneous details about when the Routemasters entered service. Have you ever wondered why London buses are red? Did you know that the first London buses used to be carried by horses? Red double-deckers symbolise London as much as red phone booths or Union Jack, but it all started from an omnibus service in 1829, running from Paddington to Bank. The omnibuses could carry 22 people and were pulled by three horses. In early 1900s the first motorised buses were implemented by The London General Omnibus Company, which soon became the largest bus company in the city, and in order to stand out from the competition, they’ve decided to paint all their buses in red. This soon became the trademark color of all London buses. The first motor bus model was B-type, also known as Ole Bill. Then came a couple of single-decker buses, Q-Type and Regal, which were already getting close to the bus we know today. But only with the introduction of AEC Regent III the London buses as we know them were born. When Warner Brosers studio was producing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, they had to construct the Knight Bus by putting together three Regent III-s. According to the book, the Knight Bus has beds, and they serve you hot chocolate for just 13 sickles. Press the Like button if you’d like London buses to serve hot chocolate too. The most iconic double-decker was introduced in 1954 - the Routemaster. This is London’s the most famous bus, it features in hundreds of films and music videos, and all the tourists visiting London try to snap a picture of the famous Routemaster. Not many are left though - there are only two Routemasters still being used on heritage routes. Then came Daimler Fleetline, Leyland Olympian and some other models which never managed to live up to their legendary predecessor. In 2008 Boris Johnson promised in his campaign to bring back the Routemaster if he is elected the Mayor of London. Soon a design competition was announced, with tens of international design companies applying with their concepts. The winner model is named NB4L, or New Bus for London, but informally Londoners call it the Boris Bus. London buses are a part of Underground Company, the same company that operates the London Tube. All buses carry GPS trackers, so that anyone can track every single bus on a map in real time. Not all the buses can be tracked though - according to rumours, there is a phantom double-decker coursing in Cambridge Gardens at nights. The phantom number 7 bus was last spotted in 1990 at 1:15 am. People reported the bus driving in the middle of the road, with no lights and no driver. Which model of the London bus you like most and why? Do you think Boris Bus is the best reincarnation of the Routemaster? Let us know in the comments. The New Bus for London, sometimes referred to as NB4L, and colloquially as the New Routemaster or Borismaster... in action around Central London .. End November 2013 Following an open design competition in 2008, Wrightbus was awarded the contract to build the bus at the end of 2009, and the final design was announced in May 2010. The design for the new bus features three doors and two staircases to allow accessible boarding. Unlike the original Routemaster, the new bus has a conventional full front end and a rear platform that can be closed when not needed, rather than the protruding, bonneted 'half cab' design and permanently open platform. The layout of the new bus allows it to be operated by one person at off-peak times. The cost of each bus will be £354,500 over the four year procurement period , which is higher than the price of £326,000 for a standard bus. The bus is driven by an electric motor powered by a battery pack. This is recharged by a diesel generator and regenerative braking. The diesel engine runs only when the battery needs charging and so the bus will have lower pollution and better fuel consumption than earlier buses in this class. #PaulNDonovan #LondonBus #London
Aldenham, Hertfordshire. At London Transport works at Aldenham, buses are subjected to various safety tests before being allowed to streets. Two men are seen lifting sandbags and placing them on seats to simulate the busload of passengers. Bus is then tested for stability. Two rubber buffers are placed at one side of the bus (in case it fails the test and tips over). Then the bus is tilted by a hydraulic ram (great pressure is applied) to check how stable it is. Man operating a rig is foreman Charlie Taylor who's been working on bus maintenance since 1927. Several shots of the bus being tilted slowly to one side - it looks as if it will turn over. C/U shot of the distance between rubber buffer and bus demonstrates that bus has past stability test. At Chiswick skid patch, a huge polygon is showered with water (buses are showered too) to get slippery. Buses are then recklessly driven - lots of breaking and skidding - to check a degree of control. Scary watch. FILM ID:57.24 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV. The AEC Routemaster is a type of a London double-decker bus that was built by Associated Equipment Company (AEC) in 1954 (in production from 1958) and produced until 1968. Primarily front-engined, rear open-platform buses, a small number of variants were produced with doors and/or front entrances. Introduced by London Transport in 1956, the Routemaster saw continuous service in London until 2005, and currently remains on two heritage routes in central London. Two heritage routes, running just 10 buses 5 on routes 15 and 9 each. London Transport recognises the nostalgia for the type among ordinary Londoners and their appeal to tourists. Although these buses are operated under contract to TfL and accept standard Travelcards, Oystercards or cash fares, they only operate for a limited time during the day duplicating short sections of two regular London bus routes. Heritage route 9: Olympia-Warwick Gardens - High Street Kensington - Royal Albert Hall — Hyde Park Corner — Piccadilly Circus — Trafalgar Square — Strand — Aldwych. Heritage route 15: Trafalgar Square — Strand — Aldwych — Fleet Street — Cannon Street — Monument — Tower Hill. The buses used were specially restored from remaining examples for this service and have clean environmental engines, modern electrics and sealed windows. Music: The Double Deckers theme tune1970

Many, many thanks to the bus driver; for going out of his way in allowing me time to record this wonderful, magnificent bus. Also a special thank you to "Ensignbus", the company responsible for maintaining and preserving this bus in such a pristine and original condition. Video was recorded on 30th April 2014, whilst the bus was seen on bus number route 38 on Upper Street, Angel, London. (The following historical Information & further details can be found on Ensignbus's website: 🤍 RT4421 entered service in February 1954 at Upton Park having initially been delivered to Romford. By October 1956 it was working from New Cross before moving on to Addlestone by December of that year. A brief period at Crawley ensued before the vehicle again retuned to New Cross and then Potters Bar before going back for overhaul. Following overhaul she spent longer spells at Peckham and then Croydon before moving to Amersham where she stayed until 1970. From 1970 until the end of her service life in 1976 she was working from Bromley, before being down graded to driver trainer duties at Bexleyheath until March 1978 when she was withdrawn and sold for scrap to Wombwell Diesels in Barnsley. Saved from oblivion by Mr Andrews in Plumstead in May 1980 it passed onto Bill Boag of Grays in 1986 who later sold it to what became Arriva London, from whom it passed to Ensignbus in December 2001.
Thanks for watching my video. For model buses, you may find the following links useful: Model Bus Zone: 🤍modelbuszone.co.uk The Model Bus Zone is an excellent website that has a clear and concise database of models that have been released and is very useful for locating models you are after. However, The Model Bus Zone does not offer buses for sale in any form and is merely a database. Searching up ‘UKBUS’ on 🤍ebay.co.uk is a search on eBay that will bring up a large amount of new and pre-owned Creative Master Northcord model buses. 🤍 YWBC is a long established and very trustworthy business that offers an excellent selection of model buses at very reasonable prices, where all the funds go towards preservation of their vehicle. Common questions with answers: Q: Can I get a shoutout? A: No Q: How do you get so many views? A: I don’t get that many views, although a couple of videos seem to have gotten on trending. Q: How can I buy model buses? A: eBay, or try bus events. Q: Are any of your buses for sale? A: Almost always no, and if I was going to I wouldn’t be able to sell directly through here due to the various risks. Q: Why are some of your videos so cringe? A: I know they are cringe, but you have to look forwards, not backwards. Q: Why is your music inappropriate? A: I delight in being inappropriate. Q: Why have some of your videos got so many dislikes? A: Not sure. A couple of my friends and have botted dislikes onto the videos before. All videos are freely produced at my own will, I have no connection with any company and am not one myself, just an individual who makes videos for a YouTube channel.
